The second presentation was given by Rosalind Roberts, a DPhil student in Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics who talked on a new method to detect misfolded proteins in Parkinson's disease, proteins that are thought to cause the degenerative process leading to Parkinson.Īs well as allowing her to become more involved in academic life at Wolfson, Rosalind echoed Marcus' comments on the positive impact speaking to non-specialists would have on her work. He feels that this ‘forces you to some extent to make your thoughts and arguments clearer, and hence better, than they would otherwise be'. Marcus highlighted the positive impact he considered the occasion would have on his work, due to the challenge of presenting to non-specialists. Marcus Carlsen, a DPhil student in Politics and International Relations spoke about the role of the government in dealing with "nomadic" groups (Roma and travellers in particular) that move across sedentary-based states.
